Two New Doctor Who Specials On BBC America Tonight

Viewers of BBC America will be treated to a packed schedule of episodes of Doctor Who  and Torchwood, culminating in two new specials featuring David Tennant. The schedule includes both parts of David Tennant's swansong as the Doctor The End Of Time, starting at 2pm/1c as well as all five parts of the harrowing miniseries Torchwood: Children Of Earth.

At 7pm/6c comes the first of the new specials:

Doctor Who: The Companions

As the Doctor's newest companion, Clara Oswald, steps into the TARDIS, take a look back at previous companions. Companions past and present talk about how the show has changed their lives

At 8pm/7c it's time for the third of the monthly specials exploring the various incarnations of the Doctor since his first appearance fifty years ago. This time its the turn of the Third Doctor played by Jon Pertwee. The programme will be folllowed by the classic serial Spearhead From Space and will be repeated at 11pm/10c

Airdate For The Politician's Husband: Monday 22nd April

The Telegraph have listed an airdate of Monday 22nd April for The Politician's Husband, the new BBC Two political thriller starring David Tennant and Emily Watson. The  Telegraph have listed the drama among their recommendations to watch and see in April 2013 and say:

The Politician’s Husband Paula Milne (White Heat) has written a sort of bookend to The Politician’s Wife, her award-winning 1995 drama about marriage, power and politics. It stars David Tennant and Emily Watson as a married couple with different profiles in the corridors of Westminster. But then the balance of power shifts…

The broadcast date has yet to be confirmed but if correct then it falls on the same day as the final episode of the ITV murder mystery Broadchurch, also starring David Tennant.

The Politician's Husband
Aiden Hoynes (David Tennant) is a senior cabinet minister who has always put his career before family, with the support of Freya (Emily Watson) , his devoted wife and mother to their two young children. But when Freya's own political career takes off and threatens to overshadow his, Aiden's life is thrown into chaos. As his political career comes to a standstill, and with his marriage turned upside down, Aiden takes increasing risks in his quest for power. The drama also stars Jack Shepherd, Roger Allam, Ed Stoppard and Oscar Kennedy.

The series is due to start on BBC Two later this spring.

OFFICIAL BBC Announcement: David Tennant And Billie Piper Are Confirmed For 50th Anniversary Cast

The BBC have now issued a statement confirming that David Tennant and Billie Piper will make up part of an exciting all- star cast of a special episode celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who.

The BBC say:

David Tennant and Billie Piper to return for blockbuster celebrations with John Hurt also confirmed.
The BBC has today revealed some of the all-star cast that will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.  David Tennant and Billie Piper will join current Doctor and companion, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, while John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien, Harry Potter) will also co-star.
Last seen as the Doctor on January 1st 2010, this will be the first time Tennant has reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor.  During his reign as the Time Lord, Tennant appeared in three series as well as several specials.  He was first revealed as the Doctor in the 2005 series finale, ‘The Parting of the Ways’.

Happy Birthday BBC America!

The network that brings the best of British programming to America turns 15 this weekend. BBC America has previously brought such David Tennant packed treats as Doctor Who and Blackpool to US audiences along with other hits like Torchwood, Luther and Being Human. Next week it begins screening David's World War II spy drama Spies Of Warsaw (9pm, Wednesday 3rd April) and later in the year it will be the home of the highly acclaimed murder mystery series Broadchurch.

The BBC America blog Anglophenia has compiled a list of fifteen top moments from their history, including a clip of David's song and dance routine to the Smiths classic The Boy With A Thorn In His Side, which you can watch below:

Anglophenia also give us the bonus clip of a clip from the 2009 San Diego Comic Con from the Doctor Who panel, featuring the infamous Tennant / Barrowman kiss.

BBC Confirm David Tennant Casting In Doctor Who 50th Show

The BBC have now confirmed that David Tennant and Billie Piper along with John Hurt have been cast in the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who special.They will be joining stars Matt Smith as the Doctor and new companion Clara played by Jenna-Louise Coleman in the special episode which begins shooting on Monday.

The official @BBCDoctorWho Twitter page have posted images of David Tennant, Billie Piper and John with the hashtag #DoctorWho50th. The information was leaked ahead of the official BBC announcement after copies of Doctor Who magazine containing casting news was sent out to subscribers early.

.The 90 minute episode is expected to be shown on the night of the show's 50th Anniversary, Saturday 23rd November, and will also have a cinematic release. The show will be filmed in 3D, though will be screened in a standard version too.

The new series of Doctor Who begins tonight at 6.15pm on BBC One and on BBC America at 8pm/7c.

David Tennant And Billie Piper To Return For Doctor Who 50th

Rumours are breaking that the Doctor Who news that everyone was waiting for is confirmed.

According to subscribers of Doctor Who Magazine, David Tennant and Billie Piper will be returning for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special. John Hurt is also named among the cast. They will join current Doctor Matt Smith and new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman for the celebratory episode.

The 50th Anniversary falls on Saturday 23rd November. The special episode will be 90 minutes long and will have a limited cinematic release along with the TV broadcast. There will be both 3D and standard versions.

Now Magazine: Why David Tennant Is Ace In Broadchurch

Now Magazine have been catching up with Broadchurch and have nothing but the highest commendations for the drama and its actors. The series, which boasts David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Arthur Darvill among a star-studded cast, follows the effects of a brutal murder on a small seaside community. They say:
"If you've not got stuck into ITV's newest, most spine-chilling crime drama of the year, then do it. Do it now!"

They praise Olivia Colman as awesome as Ellie Miller an suggest that Will Mellor need never be associated with Two Pints Of Lager ever again after his great performance as apparent psychic Steve Connolly. 

However they believe that best of all is David Tennant as antisocial police officer DI Alec Hardy:

"No more Doctor Who for him. He's doing an incredible job at playing a haunted, pill-popping, workaholic detective, with his own dark secrets to hide."

“It's Definitely Not Me." - Broadchurch Star Takes Themselves Off Suspect List

Nine million viewers a week have been following the investigation into the murderer of young Danny Latimer in the ITV hit drama Broadchurch and trying to work out the identity of his killer. Up until now most of the cast have kept quiet about the outcome of the case, but one principal cast member has opened up to rule themselves out of the running.

In a recent interview the actor tells how they were so worried that their character might be the murderer that they eventually persuaded writer Chris Chibnall to confirm their innocence:
"I didn't even know if anyone knew. I just kept going up to him and saying 'It better not be me!' and he said 'It's OK, it's not you.' That was all I needed to know. So it's definitely not me."

The actor also talked about the experience of working on the drama,

David Tennant Costumes On Display At The RSC From April

The RSC's In Stitches: A Celebration Of RSC Costume featuring items worn by David Tennant opens on 20th April according to the My Daily website. The free exhibition which runs through the company's Summer and Winter seasons also includes costumes worn by Ian McKellern, Judy Dench, Mark Rylance and Derek Jacobi. The 35 handcrafted pieces illustrate the incredible skills of tailoring, dyeing, printing, leatherwork, beading, corsetry, millinery and jewellery making that are all required to create each hugely detailed piece

Viking River Cruises Suspend Broadchurch Sponsorship Over Boat Burning Scenes

Fans watching episode four of Broadchurch on ITV on Monday night spotted that something was missing from their usual viewing experience this week - the Viking River Cruises sponsorship messages that bracketed each ad break.

It emerges that Viking River Cruises made the decision to pull their ads temporarily following the broadcast of dramatic scenes at the end of epiosde three and start of episode four of a burning boat out at sea. The company reacted following negative tweets linking the onscreen scenes with the cruise experience. 

Wendy Atkin-Smith, Managing Director of Viking River Cruises UK, told the Independent, "We did pull our sponsorship from Monday's Broadchurch, having received an outline of the sensitivities around the content of the episode, ahead of airing on Monday."

Jenna-Louise Coleman Names David Tennant's Doctor As Her Favourite

New Doctor Who assistant Jenna-Louise Coleman has named her favourite incarnation of the Doctor, even though she admits that she was not previously a hardcore watcher.

"Everyone has their Doctor Who – mine is David Tennant," she told Metro, "My granny loves all of them."

Jenna-Louise will be joining Matt Smith on the TARDIS for new episodes of Doctor Who starting this weekend when the Doctor starts to unravel the mystery behind the mysterious Clara Oswald. Jenna-Louise  is thrilled to take on the challenge of her new role finding the experience very different from anything that she's done before.

"The difficulty is you’re consistently running,’ she says. ‘This isn't like any other show – I've never sat down and had a conversation in any episode. You’re talking and moving all the time. The energy you need is ridiculous."

Paisley Postmark To Launch David Tennant's First Class Stamp

All stamped mail sent from David Tennant's home town of Paisley over the next seven days will feature a specially designed postmark to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. The postmarks have been created in conjunction with the launch yesterday of the Royal Mail's commemorative Doctor Who 50th Anniversary stamps which feature stamps for each incarnation of the Doctor. The special postmarks, available until next Tuesday, will apply for each Doctor, so mail posted in Northampton, for instance, will feature a Matt Smith postmark while that from Dunoon in Scotland will feature Sylvester McCoy. David Tennant was born in Bathgate, but was brought up in Paisley.
