Glasgow Film Festival 2012: Writer Sally Phillips & Director Sheree Folkson discuss The Decoy Bride

Co-writer/actor Sally Phillips (Smack the Pony) and director Sheree Folkson (A Royal Scandal) discuss their feature film The Decoy Bride, which was screened as part of the Great Scots strand at the Glasgow Film Festival 2012.
Bridget Jones meets Local Hero in this fizzy romantic confection that features a sparkling screwball comedy performance from Kelly Macdonald. Hollywood star Lara (Alice Eve) and her writer fiancé James (David Tennant) are desperate for a quiet romantic wedding far from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. The tiny Scottish island of Hegg seems ideal but the media are soon descending in their hordes. A cunning plan is devised to stage a fake wedding and throw them off the trail. Local lass Katie (Macdonald) is the decoy bride but nothing goes entirely as expected in an entertaining romp with echoes of I Know Where I'm Going.

And there's a fabulous commentary written by Sally over on the Shooting People blog which you can read here.

Love Life To Have A New Title

The new David Tennant BBC1 drama Love Life is set to undergo a change of name after the BBC and ITV came to an agreement over who would use the title.

Both broadcasters commissioned dramas of the same title last year. The BBC series, created by Dominic Savage, consists of five semi-improvised overlapping stories set in Margate with a cast that includes David as well as Vicky McClure, Billy Piper, Ashley Walters and David Morrissey. The ITV drama is three episodes long, set in Manchester and was written by Bill Gallagher, who adapted Lark Rise To Candleford for screens.

ATV Today have reported that following amicable discussions the BBC have agreed to relinquish the title and rename their drama True Love, the name by which it was known when the first news of the production emerged. The drama is expected to come to BBC1 in late spring

Using a Tree Fu spell, Tom is transported into a wondrous enchanted kingdom in a tree called Treetopolis, inhabited by sprites, bugs and naughty fungi – the ‘Mushas’. Here he meets his faithful sidekick Twigs, a silly and energetic Acorn Sprite.

Double Awards Win For Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing, the West End smash of last summer came away from the WhatsOnStage Awards tonight with a pair of awards. The play won Best Shakespearean Production and was also named the AKA Theatre Event Of The Year.

The awards were collected by the play's director Josie Rourke who praised David Tennant and Catherine Tate for having the idea to stage the play in the first place, thanked the company for performing so well together and most of all thanked the audiences throughout the summer for their unwavering enthusiasm and support. She stressed the importance of having a good quality cast and felt that it was very apt that they had received the Theatre Event Of The Year award as that is how they were made to feel during the entire run.

Catherine Tate also sent a thank you message from LA where she is currently filming for The Office.

Unfortunately David Tennant, who had been nominated as Best Actor In A Play in a very hotly contended category lost out to James Corden, sta…

Tree Fu Tom Interview

Twigs is Tom’s best friend and sidekick – he goes everywhere with him and is the comic heart of the show. This tiny acorn sprite is like the wide-eyed, fun-loving, free-spirited and seriously silly child in each of us.

Could you tell us who you play?
I play Twigs, who is Tom’s best friend. Twigs lives in Treetopolis and he’s a tree sprite. He’s very small, he’s sort of based on an acorn and he can retract himself into an acorn whenever he’s frightened. But he’s a little anarchic, he’s a little crazy and he’s quite loud.

Could you sum up TFT and why parents should encourage their children to watch it?
I think TFT is imaginative, inventive, exciting, really good fun and it looks beautiful. It looks like no expense has been spared and I can’t wait to see all the finished episodes as everything I have seen so far has been a visual feast. It’s an incredible wonderful thing that we have channels like CBeebies that devote so much time and effort and skill to telling wonderful stories.

Love Virtually - BBC Press Release

As we revealed yesterday David will be co starring with Emilia Fox in a new BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of Love Virtually.
The BBC Press Release follows:
Thursday 8 March 2.15-3.00pm BBC RADIO 4

Starring David Tennant and Emilia Fox, Love Virtually by Austrian novelist Daniel Glattauer is a thoroughly modern epistolary novel with one difference - its protagonists Emmi Rothner and Leo Leike communicate exclusively by email.

They 'meet' when Emmi mistakenly sends an email to Leo's inbox. A romance ensues that allows them to live out a shared secret life far removed from their day-to-day existences. The story asks to what extent the relationship relies on fantasy and escapism and whether it will it survive a real life meeting.
The problem is Emmi is married - but does a virtual affair ‘count’ as adultery?
The tale questions whether it’s possible to fall in love with someone you've never met - and explores the implications of anonymity in cyberspace.
Adapted by Eileen Horne.

The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists – Exclusive featurette

Yahoo! Movies have published an exclusive featurette for David's new film The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists.
David stars as Charles Darwin in the Aardman Animations film which is released in the UK on 28th March 2012.

New Radio 4 Project For David: Love Virtually

David Tennant will record an adaptation of the Daniel Glattauer novel Love Virtually along with Emilia Fox for BBC Radio 4. The production will be broadcast as the Afternoon Play on Thursday 8th March at 2.15pm.

From the official Press Release:

Have you ever just clicked with someone . . . ?

It begins by chance: Leo receives emails in error from an unknown woman called Emmi. Being polite he replies, and Emmi writes back. A few brief exchanges are all it takes to spark a mutual interest in each other, and soon Emmi and Leo are sharing their innermost secrets and longings. The erotic tension simmers, and, despite Emmi being happily married it seems only a matter of time before they will meet in person. Will their feelings for each other survive the test of a real-life encounter?

And if so, what then?

Glattauer was born in Vienna and still lives and works in the city. Love Virtually sold over two million copies  in Germany. Reviews following the release of the English translation:

With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they do battle with the pirate-hating Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a young Charles Darwin (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
