Who Will Be The Named The Greatest Scot?

The people have triumphed over the experts in the quest to find the Greatest Scot who will be named in a special St Andrew's Day TV show tonight. A top panel picked a short list of 30 names. But Record readers and STV viewers were asked to select a further five. And the Top Ten, revealed today after a public vote, contains three of the People's Choice candidates - previously ignored by the expert panel. The trio short-listed by ordinary folk are Doctor Who actor David Tennant, singer Alex Harvey and founder of the Boys' Brigade, Sir William Alexander Smith. They are up against some of the biggest names in Scottish history and the remaining seven names in the final 10 are: Representing Leaders & Thinkers - William Wallace and Robert The Bruce. Representing Arts & Entertainment - Robert Burns and Billy Connolly. Representing Sport - Jock Stein. Representing Inventors & Entrepreneurs - Andrew Carnegie. Commemorative Medal To Feature David

David Tennant has regenerated – into a commemorative medal. Royal Mint is producing the limited edition Doctor Who items, the first time TV characters have featured on their medals. They are being produced as Tennant, the 10th Doctor, prepares to bow out of the Tardis in a two-part Christmas special. He will regenerate into Matt Smith, the latest actor to take on the time-travelling sci-fi role. As well as Tennant, the Daleks and the Doctor's robot dog K-9 appear on the gold and silver medals. Commemorative coin director Dave Knight said: "Just as the Doctor is timeless, so too is the enduring appeal of the TV series which continues to entertain audiences across the world. Press Release: David Tennant has admitted he has “nothing to say” to new Time Lord, Matt Smith. Tennant told Reader’s Digest, in an exclusive interview for the December issue, that he’d spoken to his successor several times “but there’s nothing to say. I think we both thought we’d be able to exchange lots of ideas. But actually it’s none of my business how Matt does it and nothing I say can really help him.” Talking about his final foray as the Doctor in this year’s Christmas special, Tennant says “This year we’ve done something different. David is featured in Headway's Annual Review thanking all the wonderful volunteers who help the charity: Volunteers play a vital role in Headway Essex, bringing many qualities and skills which really enrich the organisation. They work in the Day Centre and are involved in many different activities, including computer skills training, adult basic education, cooking, driving, one to one project work and gardening. There are volunteers within the Community Support Service, giving talks to schools, making tea and lending a listening ear. There are volunteers working in the fundraising office, helping with the administration, answering the telephone, supporting and running events and counting collection boxes! On ITV1’s This Morning on 23 November, Ben Miller of Armstrong (Sarah Jane Adventures) & Miller let slip that David Tennant plays one of the ghosts in Catherine Tate’s upcoming Christmas Special. He added that David plays the role in the style of Russell Brand. The Waters Of Mars Comes To BBC America

The next special, Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars airs on BBC AMERICA, Saturday December 19th at 9pm/8c. All will be revealed as the Doctor and his companion Adelaide face terror on the Red Planet in one of the scariest adventures yet. It stars David Tennant and British stage and screen actress Lindsay Duncan (Rome, Langford) as Adelaide, his cleverest and most strong-minded companion. This year's BBC Children in Need is to feature an exclusive preview of the forthcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special. The clip, from The End Of Time: Part One, is never-seen-before footage and will keep fans all over the globe wondering what's in store for the Doctor as David Tennant departs and Matt Smith becomes the 11th Doctor. Dreamland Starts This Saturday

Fans of Doctor Who will be able to see the first installment of the new animated adventure, Dreamland, tomorrow. The new adventure sees the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and the Tardis touch down in the New Mexican desert where the Time Lord befriends a young waitress Cassie (Georgia Moffett) and her friend Jimmy (Tim Howar). But when the Doctor activates a mysterious alien artefact the US army escorts him to Area 51 – also known as “Dreamland”. Because the team is only using computers to create each episode the producers have packed in plenty of explosions and monsters that wouldn’t be possible in a live-action episode. A new instalment will be available daily on the Doctor Who website from tomorrow and the full 45 minutes will be broadcast on BBC Two on 5th December.

You can find out more about it below: Actor, David Tennant, lent his support to the Transforming our Theatres Appeal when he visited the site of the new theatre, the first time since performing Hamlet at The Courtyard Theatre last year. Following a tour of the new buildings, David took his seat in the main auditorium, which is currently under construction, to raise awareness of the Take a Seat appeal. Over 500 seats have already been named in the auditorium, some for a favourite actor, director or to mark an anniversary, for an individual or to commemorate somebody's life. Actors who have already had a seat named after them include David Suchet, John Thaw, Ian Richardson and Dame Peggy Ashcroft, so there's plenty of opportunity for people to name a seat after a favourite actor. Dreamland will air in one 45 minute episode on Saturday 5th December at 10:00am on BBC Two. The BBC Press Office have released the following details: David Tennant, Georgia Moffett, David Warner, Stuart Milligan and Clark Peters are among the roll call of talent appearing in the new, animated Doctor Who special, Dreamland, set in the infamous alien hotspot Roswell and described by writer Phil Ford as "Doctor Who meets a Fifties monster B-movie". BBC Two have uploaded a very exciting preview video of Hamlet here . Press release follows: The Royal Shakespeare Company's award-winning production of Hamlet, directed by RSC Chief Associate Director Gregory Doran, stars David Tennant in the title role.
