Running Time : 7hrs 35mins Kenneth Branagh stars in BBC Radio 4's ambitious eight-hour dramatisation of 'Life and Fate', Vasily Grossman's epic masterpiece set during the Battle of Stalingrad. This powerful work, completed in 1960, charts the fate of both a nation and a family in the turmoil of war. Its comparison of Stalinism with Nazism was considered by Soviet authorities to be so dangerous that the KGB placed the manuscript under arrest and Grossman was informed his book would not be published for at least 200 years. David Tennant to play Robert Louis Stevenson for Radio 4

A few weeks back we posted the news that David was to take part in a new Radio 4 drama, entitled, Stevenson In Love, we now have more details via The Stage: David Tennant is to star as Robert Louis Stevenson in a BBC drama based on the author’s travel writings and personal letters. In the first part, called Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes, the drama follows Stevenson in France. Here he kept a journal that was to become his travelogue from which the drama takes its name. In the second part, The Amateur Emigrant, Stevenson catches a steamer to New York and then undertakes a train journey across America, ending in California. The drama has been written by Mike Harris. The BBC Press Office says: Fry's Planet Word – The Power And The Glory Ep 5/5 Sunday 23 October 9.00-10.00pm BBC TWO Storytelling has been around as long as language itself. From Homer's epic The Odyssey to Joyce's modern reinvention of it in Ulysses, taking in Shakespeare, Wodehouse, Tolkien, Orwell, Auden, Bob Dylan and even the mangled web of words that has become known as Birtspeak, Stephen uncovers why certain words can make people laugh, while others make them cry or tear their hair out. Talking to storytellers such as screenwriter William Goldman and Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson, he looks at how character and plot are interwoven and how any rulebook on how to create the perfect story is doomed. Shakespearean actors Simon Russell Beale, David Tennant, Brian Blessed and Mark Rylance give their take on Hamlet and the Bard. Sir C

Doctor Who Magazine has reported on the fact that David Tennant is attatched to the BBC Film Nativity 2 which is of course a sequel to the Martin Freeman film, Nativity, which was released in 2009. The project is thought to be partly improvised and if so it will be the second partly improvised project David has embarked on this year as his new BBC drama, Love Life, is also semi improvised. It was initially thought that David had begun filming after he was spotted at a primary school in Coventry earlier this week, and Ian McNiece had previously stated that filming begins this week, however it has since emerged that David was helping the director to audition young cast members. Filming is thought to begin next week in Coventry and a release date of late 2012 is expected. Thanks to @dtforum and @PropPortfolio.
