David Tennant will be one of the star-studded cast of the upcoming adult animation Standing By, coming soon to Hulu. The US streaming service has ordered a full series of the comedy which gives a "...satirical look into the lives of a group of eternally bound, disgruntled guardian angels and the lessons they’ll eventually learn from not only the dysfunctional humans they’re in charge of protecting, but also each other.”
Standing By is a project by Dan Levy and Ally Pankiw, respectively the star and story editor of the award-winning comedy Schitt's Creek. In a joint statement, the series co-writers announced, “Standing By is about the hilarity, embarrassment, and melodrama of everyday life as observed by a team of judgmental, gossip-starved Guardian Angels. We are very excited to bring this world to life with the help of Hulu, 20th Television Animation, and Bento Box Entertainment. Not to mention an insanely brilliant cast of actors,”
In addition to Dan Levy and David Tennant, the voice cast also includes Natalie Palamides, Glenn Close, Poppy Liu and Samira Wiley.
Dan Levy will executive produce the series, which comes from his previous overall deal at ABC Signature, under his own television and film production company Not a Real Production Company. Ally Pankiw will also executive produce alongside Danielle Uhlarik who will, in addition, serve as showrunner. 20th Century Animation will produce the series for Hulu Originals.
