David Tennant & Catherine Tate To Return To Doctor Who In 2023

The Tenth Doctor and Donna are back! The news comes just one week after Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa was revealed as the Fourteenth Doctor.

The BBC has confirmed today that David Tennant and Catherine Tate are filming scenes for Doctor Who which will be aired in 2023 when the show celebrates its 60th anniversary. The beloved pairing will also reunite with showrunner Russell T Davies for the first time since David Tennant's final episodes, The End Of Time Parts 1 and 2, which aired in 2009 and 2010.

David, of course, made an appearance in the 50th Anniversary special The Day Of The Doctor, alongside Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and John Hurt. He and Catherine have also reunited for a series of Tenth Doctor audio dramas for Big Finish.

The Doctor and Donna parted ways when the Doctor had to wipe Donna's memory, making her forget him, in order to save her life. He left her family with a warning: if ever she remembers, she will die. But with the two coming face to face once more, the big question is, just what brings the Doctor and Donna back together?

Russell T Davies, Showrunner says: “They're back! And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening?  Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”
