David Tennant Audiobooks Shortlisted In The British Book Awards

Two of David Tennant's recent audio projects have been shortlisted in the British Book Awards (AKA 'The Nibbies') in the Book Of The Year - Audiobook: Fiction section.

The Wizards Of Once: Never And Forever - Cressida Cowell

First up is David's reading of the Cressida Cowell bestseller The Wizards Of Once: Never And Forever. The latest installment in the new book series from the creator of the How To Train Your Dragon saga reunites the author with her favourite narrator. The novel continues the adventures of young wizard Xar and the warrior Wish and, filled with songs and poetry, it's the perfect foil for David Tennant to flourish with unique accents and meta-moments to boot: “As David Tennant I am the narrator who is narrating Cressida Cowell’s narration of the real narrator behind this story.”

The Sandman: Act II - Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs

Also nominated is the second part of the multi-cast dramatisation of Neil Gaiman's epic comic series The Sandman. A cast of 72 playing 206 characters and a team of five sound designers helped make the “unadaptable” text into a bestseller within a week of release. David voices the iconic Norse mischief-maker Loki, alongside James McAvoy, Kat Dennings, John Lithgow. Michael Sheen, Joanna Lumley and many more. The recording incorporates soundscapes and an atmospheric soundtrack by Bafta-winning composer James Hannigan.

The other shortlisted titles in this section are:

  • Careless - Kirsty Capes, narrated by Amber Gadd
  • The Lord of the Rings – JRR Tolkien, narrated by Andy Serkis
  • The Man Who Died Twice - Richard Osman, narrated by Lesley Manville
  • The Night She Disappeared - Lisa Jewell, narrated by Joanne Froggatt
All Book of the Year shortlists are available here.

The winners will be announced during an in-person and online event held at Grosvenor House, London on Monday 23rd May from 7pm.
