The brand new adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel, Around the World in 80 Days, starring David Tennant, Ibrahim Koma and Leonie Benesch as the intrepid threesome Phileas Fogg, Passepartout and Abigail ‘Fix’ Fortescue will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Boxing Day.
The premiere will consist of a double bill and will air at 5.50pm and 6.40pm, it will then be available to stream as a boxset on iPlayer in the new year.
Around The World In 80 Days stars David Tennant as Phileas Fogg, a 19th Century gentleman and adventurer who, with his valet, Passepartout, played by rising French actor Ibrahim Koma, takes on the legendary journey of circumnavigating the globe in just 80 days following an outrageous bet. They are swiftly joined by aspiring journalist Abigail Fix, played by The Crown’s Leonie Benesch, who seizes the chance to report on this extraordinary story. Other cast members include Ty Tennant, Jason Watkins, Peter Sullivan, Lindsay Duncan, Dolly Wells, Richard Wilson, Faical Elkihel, Anthony Flanagan, Gary Beadle and Giovanni Scifoni.
A second series has already been announced.
Globally it will premiere in the USA on Masterpiece on PBS on Sunday 2nd January 2022 at 8/7c, with new episodes coming weekly. It will be available to stream in full on Germany's ZDFmediathek from 11th December 2021.
It will air on the BBC in the UK and on France Télévisions in late 2021. It can also be seen on Italy’s RAI and via Seven West Media in Australia, with broadcast dates to be confirmed.
