Watch The Virtual Radio Times Awards Tonight And Find Out If Des And Staged Will Win Their Categories
A virtual ceremony, with exclusive acceptance speecehes from the winners, will take place this evening from 8pm on Facebook as Radio Times announce the winners of their 2021 TV awards. Two of David Tennant's projects from last year are shortlisted across three of the categories.
The heart-stopping biopic Des, in which David chillingly portrayed real-life serial killer Dennis Nilsen, is shortlisted for Best Drama. The three part ITV series is up against Steve McQueen's anthology Small Axe, Michaela Coel's I May Destroy You and BBC favourite Call The Midwife, among others.
One of the few highlights of lockdown was undoubtedly the innovative comedy Staged. Reuniting Good Omens stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, Simon Evans' genius concept demonstrated the frustrations and anxieties of living through a global pandemic, told entirely through Zoom calls. Also in the category are the supernatural sitcoms Ghosts and What We Do In The Shadows and the final series of Schitt's Creek and Friday Night Dinner.
Staged reappears in the category for TV Moment of the Year, celebrating the moment where Dame Judi Dench herself waded in to virtually bash together the heads of the feuding David and Michael. They are up against seven other stand-out TV events of the year, including Bill Bailey's triumph in Strictly Come Dancing, Jordan North's 'happy place' in I'm A Celebrity, the tense climax to Coronation Street's domestic abuse drama and a very cute interruption during a news report.
