Red Nose Day Returns Next Month: David Tennant Hosts & Staged Returns With A New Episode

David Tennant will be one of the hosts of this year's Comic Relief Red Nose Day television special, confirmed for Friday 19th March. He will co-present the BBC One fundraising extravaganza along with Alesha Dixon, Davina McCall, Paddy McGuinness and Sir Lenny Henry.

In addition, fans of David's recent series Staged will be delighted to hear that he will be reuniting with Michael Sheen for an exclusive mini-episode of the hit lockdown comedy, to be shown on the night.

The biennial event seeks to raise finds through comedy, entertainment and music to support projects in the UK and abroad, and this year particularly donations will be used to tackle issues including homelessness, hunger, domestic abuse, and mental health problems, all of which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Comic Relief co-founder Sir Lenny Henry says, "We all need cheering up, so this year Red Nose Day will be a bit different. Of course we want to raise as much money as possible for people who really need it in the UK and around the world. But we also want to make you smile and bring you some laughter over the coming weeks!"

A launch video has been released today, which sees Benedict Cumberbatch, Dame Judi Dench, Karim Zeroual, Joe Lycett, Saffron Barker, Joe Sugg, Mo Gilligan, Roman Kemp, Katherine Ryan, Shappi Khorsandi and Sir Lenny Henry talking about the different ways that comedy has helped them, and showcases some of the projects supported by Comic Relief.

As usual as range of Red Nose Day merchandise will be available, including a set of 10 new Red Nose designs based on woodland characters. This year's merchandise is 100% plastic free and plant-based, made from a by-product of sugarcane. Merchandise is available now from Sainsbury's stores, sainsburys.co.uk and from comicrelief.com/shop or at argos.co.uk from 10th February.
