USA: Hulu Buys Streaming Rights For David Tennant And Michael Sheen Comedy Staged

Good news for fans in the USA as it was confirmed today that Hulu have bought the rights to stream Staged in the USA.

The series was a massive hit in the UK with over 20 million views on BBC iPlayer.

Staged sees David Tennant and Michael Sheen playing fictional versions themselves. In Staged the pair were due to star in a production of Six Characters in Search of an Author in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (Simon Evans - also playing himself) is determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knows how big a chance this is for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet.

All they need to do is read the first scene, but throughout the series they come up against a multitude of oppositional forces: distraction, boredom, home-schooling and their own egos.

The series takes on the challenges of creating a drama in lockdown, on stage and off, with a line-up including Georgia Tennant, Lucy Eaton and Anna Lundberg. The show has a selection of guest stars including Dame Judi Dench, Samuel L Jackson and Nina Sosanya.

The Staged production team followed the latest government guidelines on Covid-19 to ensure that the series was made safely and responsibly, using a combination of self-shooting and video conferencing technology, all in accordance with the latest protocols.

No premiere date has been announced for the show to drop on Hulu as yet.
The series will consist of six 22 minute long episodes.
