Listen Now To David Tennant Does A Podcast With... James Corden

A new episode of David Tennant’s podcast series David Tennant Does A Podcast With... is now live. This week David's guest is the English actor, writer and comedian James Corden who has found massive success in the USA hosting The Late Late Show with James Corden, the late-night television talk show on CBS.

James went on to co-create, co-write and star in the critically acclaimed BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey for which he won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Comedy Performance.

His early television work included regular roles on the popular ITV series Fat Friends and Channel 4’s Teachers.

Early on in his career, James found that winning roles as a romantic lead was a challenge due to him being a larger size. He says,

"I really felt like people were going, ‘We think you’re quite good. It’s just because of what you look like.’ If you only watch television or films, if an alien came back and they had to take a reading on planet Earth by just watching films or TV they would imagine that if you are chubby or fat or big, you never really fall in love, you never have sex. Certainly no-one really ever finds you attractive."

"You will be good friends with people who are attractive and perhaps chip in with the odd joke every now and again," he added. "As you get older you’ll probably be a judge in something or you’ll be dropping off a television to a handsome person in a sitcom."

Appearing on the UK charity telethon Comic Relief in 2011, Corden created his Carpool Karaoke sketch when he drove around London singing songs with George Michael. In 2009, Corden presented the BRIT Awards with Kylie Minogue and Mathew Horne. In 2011, he returned to host the BRIT Awards, he continued to host the ceremony annually until 2014. In 2016, he hosted the 70th Tony Awards; he went on to host the Grammy Awards in 2017 and 2018. He has presented the sports-based comedy panel show A League of Their Own on Sky One since 2010.

In 2011, he played the lead part in the comedy play One Man, Two Guvnors, which transferred from the National Theatre to the West End and then to Broadway and was also cinecast worldwide via National Theatre Live. For his performance in the Broadway run of the play, Corden won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. In 2015 he received the BAFTA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.
