Mary Queen Of Scots
Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland
to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, Mary also has a rival claim to the throne
of England, held by her cousin Elizabeth I. Mary fights to govern
her unruly kingdom at a time when female monarchs are reviled as monstrous. To
secure their thrones, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage
and children, and Mary’s reputation is under continual attack from her enemies, who
construct lies about her sexual conduct. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies
within each court imperil both Queens – driving them apart, as each woman
experiences the bitter cost of power. Saorise Ronan stats as Mary with Margot Robbie as Elizabeth. David Tennant appears as outspoken preacher John Knox, a fierce critic of Mary. Mary Queen of Scots is written by Beau Willimon based on the book “Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart” by Dr. John Guy.
The film is currently on limited release in the USA and will be released in the UK on Friday 18th January.
