Michael Sheen Inspired By Good Omens Fanfic For Aziraphale's Love Of Crowley

Michael Sheen, one of the stars of the upcoming Amazon Prime adaptation of Good Omens, has confessed that he turned to the large body of fanfic inspired by the 1990 novel on which to base his portrayal of the angel Aziraphale. Michael co-stars with David Tennant, who plays the demon Crowley in the six-part series which is due to launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2019. He spoke about the show in an interview with The Telegraph today

Michael said, "I wanted to play Aziraphale being sort of in love with Crowley. They're both very bonded and connected anyway, because of the two of them having this relationship through history - but also because angels are beings of love, so it’s inevitable that he would love Crowley. It helped that loving David is very easy to do."

And asked whether he meant platonic, romantic or erotic love he added, "Oh, those are human, mortal labels! But that was what I thought would be interesting to play with. There's a lot of fan fiction where Aziraphale and Crowley get a bit hot and heavy towards each other, so it'll be interesting to see how an audience reacts to what we've done in bringing that to the screen."

Good Omens is based on the cult novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The Antichrist has risen and the forces of Heaven and Hell are massing. It's down to a fussy book-loving angel and a fast-living demon to join forces and save the Earth before everything is destroyed in the final battle. Scripted and produced by Neil Gaiman and directed by Douglas Mackinnon, Good Omens also stars Adria Arjona, Miranda Richardson, Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, Sir Derek Jacobi, Daniel Mays, Anna Maxwell Martin and Jon Hamm.
