The Highway Rat Starring David Tennant Wins Rose D'Or



The animated adaptation The Highway Rat has been honoured in the 57th Rose d'Or Awards with a win in the Children and Youth category. The swashbuckling short from Magic Light Pictures premiered on BBC One last year on Christmas Day and stars David Tennant in the title role, with Rob Brydon, Nina Sosanya, Tom Hollander and Frances de la Tour also among the voice cast. The film is based on the children's book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and centres on the rise and fall of a greedy, thieving rodent with a sweet tooth who robs other animals of their food.

The Rose d'Or is an international awards festival celebrating the best in entertainment from around the world. This year awards were presented in ten categories during a ceremony held in Berlin on Thursday 13th September. Other UK winners included sitcom Detectorists and BBC miniseries A Very British Scandal, while Joanna Lumley received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Highway Rat competed against the UK's Overshadowed, #tagged from the Netherlands and French show Find Me In Paris.
