David Tennant is among a host of stars paying tribute to the beloved actor Sir Patrick Stewart ahead of his 80th birthday next week. David gave his contribution to The Guardian's celebration of Sir Patrick's acting career alongside  a host of actors and creatives including Sir Ian McKellen, Ruper Goold, Harriet Walter and William Shatner. 

David says of his Hamlet co-star: 
"He is everything you’d imagine: generous, a real actors’ actor, loves being in a troupe of players and everything about the life of the theatre… We all await his King Lear. Patrick still almost looks the same as in that Hamlet I saw at school. He’s fit as a fiddle and so strapping! How many 80-year-olds are the lead in their own science fiction series? There’s nothing of the “old man” about him. He’s very virile – I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me saying that!"

VIDEO: Staged Episode 6 - The Intervention

The BBC has released a clip from its hilarious lockdown series Staged featuring David Tennant, Michael Sheen and a very special guest star.

In the six-part comedy written by Simon Evans, David Tennant and Michael Sheen (playing versions of themselves) were due to star in a production of Six Characters in Search of an Author in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (Simon Evans - also playing himself) is determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knows how big a chance this is for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet. All they need to do is read the first scene, but throughout the series they come up against a multitude of oppositional forces: distraction, boredom, home-schooling and their own egos.

When tensions rise between his two stars and the project appears to be foundering, Simon has no option but to bring in someone to talk sense into them both. Watch below (may not play outside the UK):

UK: Broadchurch Series 1 Episode 5 Repeated On ITV Tonight

Broadchurch continues its repeat run in the UK tonight on ITV at 10.45pm.
The eight part series first aired back in 2013 and went on to become multi award winning after earning praise from critics and TV audiences alike.  Broadchurch explores what happens to a small community in Dorset when it suddenly becomes the focus of a police investigation, following the tragic and mysterious death of an eleven year old boy under the glare of the media spotlight. In tonight’s episode: As Hardy and Ellie come under fire, the people of Broadchurch start to turn against each other. Will a vital new piece of evidence lead Ellie and Hardy to the killer?

Episode 6 will air on Sunday 12th July at 10.45pm.

UK: Staged ‘Up To No Good’ Repeated On BBC One Tonight

David Tennant's recent comedy series Staged continues a repeat run on BBC One on tonight at 9.45pm, directly after the BBC's new six-part drama series The Secrets She Keeps. Episodes will air on Monday and Tuesday nights over three weeks in July. 

Based on an original idea by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn - Staged is written and directed by Evans and is an Infinity Hill/GCB Films production for BBC One. The series stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, playing fictional versions themselves, with the premise that the pair were due to star in a production of Six Characters in Search of an Author in the West End. Voting is now open in the shortlist for the 2020 TV Choice Awards and David Tennant has been nominated yet again as Best Actor. This is the second and final round of voting in these awards and the poll will remain open until midnight on Friday 17th July.

David has been nominated in the Best Actor category for his performance as Tom Kendrick in the chilling Channel 4 drama series Deadwater Fell.

The winners will be announced in the autumn, and this year, for the first time, you will be able to watch the winners' show via an online stream.

David has previously won the Best Actor category several times for his performances in Doctor Who, Broadchurch and Single Father.

NEW INTERVIEW: David Tennant On The “Painfully Honest” New Series Of There She Goes

David Tennant has been speaking at an online launch for the new series of his BBC comedy There She Goes. During the chat David praised the show for its “painfully honest” portrayal of family life.
“My experience of reading that first script was just how painfully honest it was, you almost felt like you had to look away from the script sometimes.” he said. 
“The show is obviously about parenting a very unique child, but it’s also just about parenting, and about how hit and miss that is, and how any one of us as a parent never feels that we’re ever getting it right. And that it’s actually quite rare to see the honesty of that written down. I think parenting is often sentimentalised, and sort of cleaned-up for consumption, and in my own experience being a parent, it’s hit and miss, and full of triumphs and disasters.” “I think obviously this is about a specific experience of parenting, but I think any parent can recognise the honesty of the way that Shaun and Sarah have told their story and…
