MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS - David Tennant Shares His Beard Woes

While we've all had plenty of sight of a bearded David Tennant - Broadchurch's Alec Hardy, for instance, or John in the new romcom You, Me And Him. However, later this year David will be seen on screen sporting some facial hair that will knock even John's sculpted hipster fuzz right out of the park.

During yesterday's interview with Zoe Ball for her BBC Radio 2 show, David described his look for the historical drama Mary, Queen Of Scots in which he plays Protestant minister John Knox. The film stars Saorise Ronan and Margot Robbie and was filmed in locations across Scotland and England..

"He had a big old beard, he was very much defined by the beard," David joked of his character. "He had a sort of Dumbledore beard."

Keeping such a length of facial hair in place for filming was no mean feat, it seemed, causing grief for the hair and make up artists as well as David himself.

"[They had to] glue it and keep gluing it all day," he said. "Then, John Knox is a preacher, so he's in the pulpit yabbering on and, of course, all that does is move your mouth around, then the glue cracks. I was not on that film for many days. I don't think I could have taken much more of the spirit gum, to be honest!"
