CANADA: Mad To Be Normal Has Its Canadian Premiere In Toronto Tonight


Mad To be Normal starring David Tennant will open the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival in Toronto tonight. Rendezvous With Madness is the first and largest film festival in the world devoted to mental health. The screening will mark the Canadian premiere of the movie which is based on the life of the revolutionary Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing, who courted controversy among his peers when he chose to embrace a medication-free approach to treating mental health conditions. David stars as Laing, with recent Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss as his fictional girlfriend Angie.

 The Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival was founded in 1993 and is produced by Workman Arts, an organisation set up to encourage aspiring, emerging and established artists with mental illness and addiction issues and to promote better understanding of those conditions through the disciplines of music, theatre, visual, literary and media arts. Co-presenters include CAMH - Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Sound Times, The Toronto Psychedelic Society and British Council Canada. The film festival is dedicated to movies about mental health and recovery. offering audiences an opportunity to watch films inspired by recovery and engage in dialogues with filmmakers, mental health professionals and people with lived experiences.

The Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival runs from November 3rd-12th in venues including the Workman Theatre and Revue Cinema.

Mad To be Normal is written and directed by Robert Mullan and also stars Michael Gambon, David Bamber and Gabriel Byrne. The film premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival on February 26th 2017 and is a Gizmo Films and Bad Penny Productions collaboration.
