Mary Queen Of Scots With David Tennant To Be Released November 2018

Focus Features have confirmed that their feature film Mary Queen Of Scots will receive a limited release in the UK on 2nd November 2018.

The film, directed by Josie Rourke, follows the early life of Mary Stuart, played by Saoirse Ronan, and her relationship with Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie), her rival in power and love. Both were female regents in a male world; Mary, who became Queen of Scotland when six days old and Queen of France aged 16, was seen as a threat to Elizabeth's sovereignty when she mounted a claim to the English throne.

David Tennant has a supporting role as John Knox who was a Scottish ministertheologian, and writer who was a leader of the country's Reformation. He is the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. He is believed to have been educated at the University of St Andrews and worked as a notary-priest. Influenced by early church reformers such as George Wishart, he joined the movement to reform the Scottish church. He was caught up in the ecclesiastical and political events that involved the murder of Cardinal David Beaton in 1546 and the intervention of the regent of Scotland Mary of Guise, a French noblewoman. He was taken prisoner by French forces the following year and exiled to England on his release in 1549.

Other cast include Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn, Gemma Chan, Martin Compston, Ismael Cordova, Brendan Coyle, Ian Hart, Adrian Lester, James McArdle and Guy Pearce. The film, a Working Title production, is currently shooting in locations across England and Scotland.
