Mad To Be Normal Wins Best International Feature In Galway

The Galway Film Fleadh draws to a close tonight with the presentation of the annual film awards. Happily for David Tennant fans, Mad To Be Normal has scooped the award for Best International Feature. The film has its Irish premiere during the festival, screening on 12th July.

Written and directed by Robert Mullan, Mad To Be Normal sees David in the role of the infamous Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing, whose controversial theories and practice around the treatment of mentally ill patients angered the medical community during the 1960s and 70s. The film focuses on the project that Laing set up in Kingsley Hall in London in the late 1960s where medical practitioners and patients experiencing psychosis lives together as equals. Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon and Gabriel Byrne also star.

Mad To Be Normal has been on limited UK release in selected cinemas since its premiere on February 26th in Glasgow. It has just started screening on HBO in Poland and the producers hope for releases in other territories, including the USA in the autumn. Keep up to date with all the latest news on the film here
