David Tennant Gives Nod Of Approval To Jodie Whittaker Casting

David Tennant has indicated his approval of Jodie Whittaker's casting as the Doctor during his Call Of Duty panel appearance at San Diego Comic Con earlier today. David was there to help promote the Nazi Zombies gameplay mode of the upcoming release, Call Of Duty: WWII (released on November 3rd), in which he voices foul-mouthed art thief Drostan Hynd. The alternative universe game sees a specialist art recovery unit pitched against a nightmarish army of undead soldiers created by a maniacal Third Reich scientist.

The Nazi Zombies mode includes characters played by Elodie Yung and Katheryn Winnick, and the panel acknowledged that half of gamers are women. David added, "Doctor Who - another show with a strong female lead!"

While he did not name his former Broadchurch co-star, David's has already shown himself to open to the idea of a female Doctor. Earlier this year he was interviewed on BBC Radio's World At One and agreed with presenter Martha Kearney that Olivia Colman would make a magnificent Doctor, adding, "If you have the right people telling the right stories then it's absolutely a possibility."

Also appearing at San Diego today, another former member of Team TARDIS was welcoming Jodie to the family in his own inimitable way: John Barrowman arrived on stage for his solo panel wearing a sparkly TARDIS tutu!

David and John join the ranks of stars of the show to have honoured Jodie already, including Peter Capaldi, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman, Alex Kingston, Arthur Darvill, Pearl Mackie and Mark Gatiss.

David will be making a second appearance at San Diego Comic Con tomorrow as part of the DuckTales panel, from 3.30pm PST in room 6A.
