Don Juan In Soho Lends Support To Red Cross 'Saturday Night For London' Campaign

The cast of Don Juan In Soho and staff of Wyndham's Theatre have offered their support to the Red Cross Saturday Night For London campaign to help those affected by last weekend’s terror attacks in the city. Collections will be held at the theatre to help raise money for the victims of the atrocity and their families.

If you aren't in the theatre this weekend then please donate online here.

The British Red Cross, which has raised nearly £400,000 in the last 48 hours, is working with big firms including Uber, Greene King Pubs and Eat, as well as smaller local outlets on the campaign.

Restaurants - including those in the area of the attacks - will be donating cash from a chosen dish; cafes, pubs and bars will ask patrons to donate the cost of their drink; and Uber is giving a pound for every journey on Saturday night.

Donald Hyslop, chairman of trustees at Borough Market, said: “The cooking and sharing of food has the power to unite people like nothing else, so for Londoners to be able to show their support for the victims and their families by meeting up to enjoy a meal and a drink will offer a forceful reminder to those who sought to divide us.”

Amy Lamé, London’s Night Czar, said the drive would be a demonstration of the city’s “unity and resilience”.

All proceeds will go to the British Red Cross UK Solidarity Fund, launched in response to the attacks in both London and Manchester.

Deliveroo will give £1 for every order placed in the capital on Saturday night so Londoners spending the evening at home can show their support.

Uber is pledging £1 for every trip between 8pm and midnight this Saturday night. A pop-up app message will encourage donations.

About 120 Greene King pubs will be holding collections for the fund, encouraging customers to say Cheers to London with a donation. They include George in Borough High Street and The Anchor on the Thames nearby.

Eat will donate the price of a menu item, displaying posters encouraging people to choose its Dish for London. It has an outlet in Tooley Street.

Mike Adamson, chief executive of the British Red Cross said: “The attack in London Bridge and people enjoying a Saturday night out with friends was an attack on the spirit of London.

“We want to encourage people to come together and unite at this difficult time. The new UK Solidarity Fund will support victims of the attacks and their families.”

More supporters of the appeal will be announced in the coming days. It has already been backed by Virgin Atlantic, Westfield, software group Sage, Tesco, Aviva, Kingfisher and John Lewis.
