Tonight sees the North American premiere of David Tennant's latest movie, Mad To Be Normal. The 1960s-set feature is based on the life and works of the revolutionary psychiatrist RD Laing. The movie will be screened in California as part of the Newport Beach Film Festival, Orange County's biggest entertainment event, screening over
350 films and staging gala events for over 50,000 film fans, promoting the best
of classic and contemporary filmmaking from around the world.
David Tennant stars as Ronnie Laing, the world-renowned Scottish psychiatrist whose use of unconventional methods to treat people with mental illnesses drew the the ire of fellow professionals and general society. The film also stars Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon, Gabriel Byrne and Adam Paul Harvey and was written and directed by Robert Mullan, Laing's official biographer.
The film screens tonight at The Triangle on Harbor Boulevard, Costa Mesa from 8.15pm
