UK RATINGS: Broadchurch Is The Most Watched Programme On Monday Night

Broadchurch once again topped the TV ratings for Monday evening, with 7.3 million viewers sitting down to watch the second episode of the hugely acclaimed ITV drama last night. The numbers were slightly down on the series premiere last week, with about 200,000 fewer watching. However, Broadchurch figures still topped those of long-running soaps Coronation Street, which attracted only 6.8m and 6.3m for its first and second episodes respectively, and Emmerdale, which brought in 5.9m. Channel 4's much publicised challenge documentary Mutiny launched opposite Broadchurch to 1.3m viewers.

The third and final series of Broadchurch sees the return of mismatched detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller (David Tennant and Olivia Colman), whose difficult relationship is stretched even further as they tackle a brutal rape case. After a woman called Trish (Julie Hesmondhalgh) presents herself at Broadchurch police station reporting a sexual attack during a party, Hardy and Miller need to hunt down the perpetrator in case he strikes again. Arthur Darvill, Andrew Buchan, Carolyn Pickles, Jodie Whittaker and Adam Wilson are among the faces familiar from previous series; joining the cast are Lenny Henry, Roy Hudd, Sarah Parish, Chris Mason, Mark Bazeley and Charlie Higson.
