BROADCHURCH: Arthur Darvill Predicts Brilliant Final Series

Arthur Darvill, who plays the Reverend Paul Coates in the award-winning ITV drama series Broadchurch, has predicted that the series will return next year in top form. Actor and musician Arthur was talking ahead of the new stage production of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox, for which he has composed the music, which opens in Southampton next week.

"This series, I think, is just going to be brilliant," he told Digital Spy of Broadchurch. "I can't tell you too much about it, but the subject matter of it is really heavy."

Broadchurch returns after a two year break for its third and final series early in 2017. After the audience-gripping phenomenon that was series 1, the second series seemed to disappoint some fans and certain sections of the press, with complaints that the focus on the trial of Danny's killer distracted from the impact of the new murder mystery.

Arthur, who was given time out from his US show DC's Legends Of Tomorrow especially to film Broadchurch, said, "I loved the second series of Broadchurch - I think it was really necessary to tell that part of the story - but I think this series has more of the feel of the first series."

David Tennant and Olivia Colman are back as mismatched detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, alongside Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, who play grieving parents Beth and Mark Latimer. The focus of Series 3 will be on a serious sexual assault, and the show's creators have worked with police and specialist support agencies for a year to ensure that the storyline is accurate. New cast members include Sir Lenny Henry, Roy Hudd, Sarah Parish and Julie Hesmondhalgh. Filming of the new episodes recently wrapped in the West Country with the show expected to air early in 2017.
