Marvel Announces New Jessica Jones Comic Series

Marvel Comics have announced they are to launch a new Jessica Jones comic book series written and drawn by the original creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. Cover art will be created by David Mack. The series will begin this Autumn.

Marvel says: She's back in her own comic series! A lot has changed in the Marvel Universe and there are still many secrets hiding in the shadow. Secrets only a special woman like Jessica Jones can hope to uncover in an all-new series arriving this fall.

The new comic book series comes hot on the heels of the hugely popular Netflix Originals series Marvel's Jessica Jones, which tells the story of Jessica Jones who, after a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

The series stars Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor as Patricia "Trish" Walker, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Speaking to IGN Bendis said the new comic book could  have launched coinciding with the debut of the TV series in 2015, but he decided to wait so as Gaydos and Mack could join him. They did release a special free one off comic book to coincide with the show's debut last year.

"I've worked with other artists on Jessica and always enjoyed it, but in my mind she never looks and feels and breathes and smells more like Jessica than when Michael draws her,” said Bendis. "Between [Michael’s art] and David Mack, who is one of my closest friends who did all the covers, that is the signature in which people think of her, of those visuals. So having them all back together and having everyone be just a little bit better at their jobs -- I think Michael is a better illustrator and David is a better painter -- and I have to rise to the occasion and meet them.”
