The 2013 wartime espionage drama Spies Of Warsaw has its Finnish premiere on YLE TV1 from January 12th. The series, set a few years before the outbreak of World War 2, stars David Tennant as the military attaché to the French Embassy in Warsaw and is based on the novels by Alan Furst.
Spies Of Warsaw
In 1937 Europe is on the brink of another major war, and Germany's movements are being monitored closely. Buyers and sellers of military and political intelligence meet in a deadly game, and Warsaw is a centre of espionage activities involving both French and German agents.
David Tennant stars as French aristocrat and war hero,
Colonel Jean-François Mercier, an active spy with a mission to find out Germany’s
intentions. But in the midst of the danger and mistrust, Mercier meets and
falls in love with the French-Polish Anna, a lawyer for the League of Nations. Can he risk giving his heart to a woman who could be a traitor and an enemy?
The budding relationship is further burdened by the fact that Anna
is already in a relationship with a Soviet dissident. Mercier finds himself at the heart
of a dangerous dilemma where they could pay for the wrong choice with their
lives.
The two-part drama also stars Marcin Dorociński, Burn
Gorman, Ellie Haddington and Anton Lesser. Spies of Warsaw is
written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais and directed by Coky Giedroyc.
Watch Spies Of Warsaw on YLE TV1 on Tuesday 12th January from 21.30. The series concludes on Tuesday 19th January.
