We’re looking back at April in our review of 2015 today. This
month, US series Gracepoint finally reached UK TV audiences, there was news of David's first appearance on the stage in the USA and we got a look at him in character as Jessica Jones villain Kilgrave.
TV
Production on Marvel’s Jessica Jones continued in New York
and the first photos of David on set appeared, the first indication that Kilgrave would not be purple skinned as he was in
the comic books. Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter were also shown on set in a
second batch of pictures.
A third set saw David filming some pivotal scenes.
ITV Encore began to air Gracepoint in the UK, the US adaptation of Broadchurch in which David starred as American
detective Emmett Carver.
The second season of Broadchurch itself continued in the
USA, and premiered in France, Italy, Switzerland, Latin America and the
Caribbean. German channel ZDF finally
began broadcasts of season 1.
Spoof documentary series W1A, narrated by David, returned to BBC Two for a second series
April saw the 10th anniversary of the
announcement that David would be taking over the role of the Doctor in Doctor
Who
It was announced that David would be the host of The Shakespeare Show, a live TV celebration of the Bard to be broadcast from the stage
of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on BBC Two on April 23rd
2016.
Film
What We Did On Our Holiday won Best Comedy at the inaugural National Film Awards.
Daisy Aitkens’ short film 96 Ways To Say I Love You starring
David Tennant and Georgia Moffett (who also produced) premiered at the London
International Film Festival
Theatre
The Royal Shakespeare Company confirmed that there would be
just 9 performances of Richard II when it returned to the Barbican in 2016 as
part of the King & Country Cycle
We were able to announce that David would be part of the
company, reprising his performance of Richard II in his American stage debut, when the King & Country cycle transfered to New York in spring
2016.
David took time out from his work on Marvel’s Jessica Jones
to attend the premiere of the RSC production Wolf Hall on Broadway.
Other News
With the General Election fast approaching, David lent his
support to the Labour Party by narrating their campaign videos.
David and wife Georgia Moffett attended the White House Correspondants’ Dinner in Washington as guests of The Guardian, in the presence
of President Barack Obama.
