The BBC Radio 4 audio book Dixon Of Dock Green starring David Tennant has been released today by BBC Physical Audio. The CD contains all twelve episodes (both series) of the 2005 radio drama which also stars David Calder and Charlie Brooks.
George Dixon became one of the best-known and most-loved
fictional policemen during the course of three decades of BBC TV's Dixon of
Dock Green, in which he was played by Jack Warner, upholding the law in Dock Green from the 1950s-1970s. The series was revived for BBC Radio, adapted by Sue Rodwell from the original scripts by Ted Willis and produced by Viv Beeby. David Calder took on the role of George Dixon with David Tennant joining up as his young sidekick Crawford. Charlie Brooks of Eastenders fame played Mary, Dixon's daughter and Andy's love interest. Dixon Of Dock Green ran for two series of six episodes each on BBC Radio 4. However, David Tennant starred in the first series only as his commitment to Doctor Who made it impossible for him to continue and Hamish Clark replaced him as Crawford.
