Today’s Throwback Thursday looks back at the filming of the
2006 episode of Doctor Who, The Idiot’s Lantern. The episode saw the Doctor and
Rose travel back to the 1950s where they discover an electrical entity taking
advantage of the increase in domestic TV sets ahead of the coronation of Queen
Elizabeth II.

It's 1953, the Coronation year of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and
the people of Great Britain gather to witness the great event. But behind the
celebrations there are rumours of monsters on the streets.
With David Tennant as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose
Tyler. The episode also starred Maureen Lipman as the Wire, Ron Cook as Mr. Magpie,
Jamie Foreman as Eddie Connolly and Margaret John as Grandma. The Idiot’s
Lantern was written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Euros Lyn. Filming took
place in Cardiff and at Alexander Palace in London.
The episode was first broadcast on BBC One on Saturday 27th
May 2006.
