In the past few years TV viewers have been used to seeing
David Tennant laying down the law in Broadchurch as the no-nonsense detective
Alec Hardy. However, a new audiobook release looks back to a gentler age of
policing and sees him taking on the role of a very different police officer. David stars as PC Andy Crawford in the radio adaptation of BBC
TV’s classic police series Dixon Of Dock Green, out on audiobook in December.
Dixon Of Dock Green, the TV series, ran for around 20 years from the 1950s - 70s and starred Jack Warner
in the iconic role of PC George Dixon. In 2005 the series was revived for BBC Radio, adapted by Sue Rodwell from the original scripts by Ted Willis and
produced by Viv Beeby. David Calder took on the role of George Dixon with David
Tennant joining up as his young sidekick Crawford. Charlie Brooks of Eastenders fame
played Mary, Dixon's daughter and Andy's love interest. Dixon Of Dock
Green ran for two series of six episodes each on BBC Radio 4. However, David
Tennant starred in the first series only as his commitment to Doctor Who made
it impossible for him to continue and Hamish Clark replaced him as Crawford.
The unabridged audio CD will feature both series of the drama and will be released by BBC Physical
Audio on 3rd December 2015.
