FRANCE: Broadchurch Finale Tops Overnight TV Ratings



The final two episodes of Broadchurch gave top place in the French overnight TV ratings last night for France 2. Audiences tuned in eagerly to discover the tragic truth behind the Sandbrook case and also to learn the outcome of the Joe Miller trial and the consequences for the residents of Broadchurch.

Episode 7 at 20.50 attracted 5.03 million viewers, a 19.1% audience share. The final episode was watched by 4.79m, a 19.0% share. The nearest rival was the new series of Doc Martin on France 1, which was watched by 4.49m (17%) from 21.00.

The season finale was followed at 22.30 by a the Shine France documentary Dans les Coulisses de Broadchurch which was viewed by an average of 2.36m (12.9%).

Overall season 2 of Broadchurch has been viewed by 4.8 million, a 20% share, down an average of 1.6 million on season 1.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman will return for season 3 of the award-winning UK drama which will go into production in 2016. Meanwhile, French audiences can look forward to their own remake, currently filming in Corsica under the title Malaterra.
