Today's Throwback Thursday selection is a look back at the 2013 political drama The Politician's Husband.
David Tennant starred as cabinet minister Aidan Hoynes who loses his post and the power that goes with in when he makes an ill-judged attempt at the party leadership. But as he is forced into the shadows, his wife Freya (Emily Watson), also an MP, sees her own career start to take off. Aidan cannot cope with the frustration and jealousy and takes drastic and dangerous measures to try to win back his former position. The series also stars Ed Stoppard, Roger Allam, Jack Shepherd and Oscar Kennedy and was written by Paula Milne.
David said of the production, "I love a bit of political drama. There’s just something about that world. There are very few areas in life where the stakes are so high; where the power struggles influence not just the lives of the people involved, but also the lives of everyone they represent. It’s almost Greek in that way, in terms of the stakes being so monumental and the power struggles going on in that world being so petty – and yet so universally important."
The Politician's Husband aired on BBC Two from April 2013. Read more about it here.
