BROADCHURCH: Final Episode Airs On A Series 2 Ratings High

The final episode of Broadchurch aired last night to a series 2 high as 7.9 million viewers turned on to see the verdict in the Joe Miller trial and the conclusion of the Sandbrook case. The figure represents 33.7% of the TV audience viewing at the time and easily won the 9pm slot for ITV. The show peaked at 8.4m (34.2%) as the court verdict was announced at the start of the show.

The series premiered in January with 7.6m viewers (30.1%).

The figure is a drop on the final episode of series 1 of Broadchurch, when 8.7m (33.5%) watched to discover who killed Danny Latimer. However, it smashed the 12 month average for ITV in the Monday night time slot, currently 5.4m (23.3%).

So far the consolidated ratings for series 2 of Broadchurch have averaged 8.8 million (27%).

ITV confirmed last night that they have already commissioned a third series of Broadchurch and both David Tennant and Olivia Colman have signed on to return.
