GRACEPOINT: No Second Season Says Entertainment Press

The showrunners may be talking about future story plans but more American entertainment sites are claiming that the FOX TV crime drama Gracepoint will not be returning for a second season. The beleaguered remake of the UK show Broadchurch shared a star in David Tennant, with Anna Gunn, Nick Nolte, Kevin Zegers and Michael Peña among those making up the American cast.

The show was originally billed as a ten-episode event series, although the producers and stars had expressed hopes that there might be a second season if it performed well. Even last week, showrunner Anya Epstein, who had hoped to replicate the success of Broadchurch by bringing the story to an American audience, told zap2it.com, "It was not meant to be self-contained and we have a lot of ideas and a lot of excitement about where it could go." This had led to speculation that a return could be in the pipeline.

However, Entertainment Weekly say that they have now heard that the second season will not be happening. They cite the show's consistently disappointing ratings which dropped from the premiere's 1.2 in the 18-49 year old demo and 4.8 million viewers to bottom out at 0.7. The thrilling and much anticipated finale saw a climb, but only to to 0.9/3 and 4 million, though figures for catch-up viewings are still to be posted.

TV Line have also said that they have heard the same information about the show's fate. Additionally, last weekend the production company sold off the remaining props, costumes and set dressings that had been held in storage on Vancouver Island, where the series was shot, pending a return. Items included the costumes worn by David Tennant and Anna Gunn.

FOX  TV have yet to make an official statement on the show's fate.

David Tennant will next be seen in the second season of the award winning Broadchurch, beginning on 5th January in the UK and on 4th February in America. The last season peaked at over 9 million viewers during its final episode in the UK and the show has been sold on to markets worldwide.

Gracepoint has also aired in Canada and Australia. It is yet to air in the UK; ITV are thought to have the rights but not yet set an start date.
