David Tennant Review Of 2014: DECEMBER



It’s the last of our month-by-month looks back at 2014: read on to see what David Tennant news stories we were covering in the month of December.

December

Broadchurch


The first trailer for the new series of Broadchurch was unveiled and the premiere date on ITV was confirmed as 5th January. The first promotional photos also appeared followed by portraits of key cast members.
David, Olivia Colman and Chris Chibnall discussed the massive security operation surrounding the new series. The cast talked about filming in West Bay. Chris Chibnall told the Mail On Sunday that even David and Olivia were still in the dark about the new series.
Many of the main cast, including David, were interviewed for the ITV press pack. David was interviewed for The Observer magazine.

The listings also revealed some new cast details.
The Little, Brown Book Group announced the release of a series of eight short stories written by Erin Kelly following each TV broadcast in the UK to tie in with that night’s episode.
The DVD and Blu-ray of the new series were scheduled for release in March.
Showcase in Canada confirmed that they would be airing the second season of Broadchurch starting in on January 11th. TV ONE in New Zealand announced they would air the series early in 2015. BBC America initially announced their premiere date for February; this was later pushed back to March 4th.
Season 1 of Broadchurch was added to Netflix in the USA

Gracepoint


The 10-episode series drew to its conclusion with a new and shocking twist on the original show, Broadchurch.
David appeared in some new preview clips:

The series showed a climb in ratings over the last two episodes and another big jump in catch up viewings.
The series was released on DVD in Australia, a few days before the season finale aired on FOX
A sale of the remaining stored set items, props and costumes took place in Victoria, adding to rumours that there would be no second season as the producers had hoped. The production manager confirmed that there had indeed been no second season pick up though they still held some hope. Later it was widely circulated that FOX had declined to renew the series for a second season; FOX made no comment themselves to confirm or deny this.

Doctor Who
A poll conducted by Ladbrokes Bingo and Onepoll revealed that David was still the nation’s favourite Doctor.
David appeared on Tomorrow’s Worlds: The Unearthly History Of Science Fiction talking about the Doctor and the TARDIS.
Titan Comics released Issue #5 in the Tenth Doctor series.

TV
John Downer Productions announced that David would be narrating their new documentary series Pets Wild At Heart, due to air in the New Year.
Selected public television channels in the USA began broadcasts of The Politician’s Husband.
The Real History Of Science Fiction aired on WOWOW in Japan.

Film


Nativity 2: Danger In The Manger! premiered on Super Channel in Canada.
The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists had its UK terrestrial TV premiere

Audiobooks
The BBC Radio 4 production of Mansfield Park starring David and Benedict Cumberbatch was released on CD

Charity


David designed a one-off hand-drawn Christmas card to be auctioned off to raise funds for the MS Society.
David showed his support for Scottish charity Circle for Giving Tuesday.
Headway Essex added a new David Tennant t-shirt to their online store to raise funds for the charity. David also sent his annual Patron’s message for the newsletter.
David appeared in a specially recorded clip in the Sport Relief 2014 review show.
