The MS Society is the UK's leading Multiple Sclerosis charity. Set up in 1953, it aims to provide information and support to people with the condition, to fight for change and to fund research. Multiple Sclerosis is a complex neurological condition affecting around 100,000 people in the UK. In MS, the myelin coating around nerve fibres is damaged causing a range of symptoms ranging from fatigue, blurred vision and tremors to muscle spasms and chronic pain, weakness and balance problems and memory loss. The causes of MS are unclear but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
