UK: The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists To Premiere On The BBC This Christmas

The hilarious Aardman animated feature film The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists will have its UK terrestrial premiere over the Christmas period when it will make up part of the BBC's 2014 festive line up.

Based on the book of the same title by Gideon Defoe and directed by Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, the stop-motion movie is a delirious high-seas romp starring Hugh Grant as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain, who navigates his salty crew on a perilous mission to Victorian London to aid a young Charles Darwin, voiced by David Tennant, and to win the prize of Pirate Captain of the Year. Along the way they encounter rival pirates Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek), the Pirate King (Brian Blessed) and Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton). The film was originally released in UK cinemas in March 2012.

The BBC Christmas TV and Radio schedules will be confirmed by early December.
