polizia Ellie Miller scopre che la promozione promessa le è stata soffiata da
un certo Alec Hardy, ispettore di dubbia reputazione e per giunta scozzese. Nel
frattempo, la sua migliore amica, Beth Latimer, si accorge che il figlio Danny,
di undici anni, è scomparso. Quando la guardia costiera trova un corpo ai piedi

It's a starry night in Broadchurch, a small English town
overlooking the sea. The summer season is just around the corner, but for now
everything is silent, while the full moon lights up the picturesque landscape:
high cliffs tinted amber, boats moored in the harbour, the small houses lined
up along the main street. And the half-open window of a small room with an
undisturbed bed: the person who usually sleeps there has not yet gone to bed
tonight. And nor will he ever again. In the morning, the city is blessed with a
warm July sun. But there is not a happy awakening for everyone. On her return
after a vacation in Florida, police sergeant Ellie Miller discovers that her
promised promotion has been awarded to a certain Alec Hardy, a Scottish detective
inspector of dubious reputation. Meanwhile, her best friend, Beth Latimer, realises
that her son Danny, eleven years old, has disappeared. When the Coast Guard find
a body at the foot of the cliffs, her worst fears are realised: it is Danny.
His death is shrouded in mystery and Agent Miller must put aside all rancour
and cooperate with Hardy in the investigation. Soon, all the leads point towards
murder and the case becomes of national interest. Abruptly plunged into the
media spotlight, Broadchurch wakes up from its slumber. The anxieties begins to
grow, old secrets and misunderstandings come to the surface, people begin to
look at one another with suspicion. Because that night, no one came into town
and no one left.
