Anna Gunn Reveals: She And David Tennant Reminded To Smile At Each Other Less On The Gracepoint Set

Anna Gunn has told HitFix in a new interview clip that her great on-set relationship with Gracepoint co-star David Tennant gave them problems when trying to portray the friction between their characters. Anna plays Detective Ellie Miller, a detective in the fictional town of Gracepoint who returns from vacation to discover that her expected promotion has been handed to newcomer Emmett Carver, played by David. However, any bad feeling between them has to be pushed aside following the discovery of the body of local boy Danny Solano on the beach and the launch of a murder enquiry.

"We both discussed what we knew and felt about these two characters is that they have a common purpose and they're out to do the same thing, but how they go about it is entirely different, and they're entirely different human beings," explained Anna. "So, we got along so well right off the bat that it was sometimes hard, you know, we had to be reminded like, please don't smile so much, you're not quite so comfortable with each other - and directors would remind us of that. I really, really loved working with David, we had a really good time."

She also talked a little about plot differences between Gracepoint and the original UK series Broadchurch upon which it is based.

"It was very exciting," she said. "I thought that the original storyline of Broadchurch was brilliant, but it was nice to know that they were going to do some different things so that those viewers who had watched Broadchurch wouldn't feel like, OK we're watching the same, we know exactly what's going to happen. And I think that the way that they did deviate and the places they took the story off into were very, very interesting and did some interesting things to the characters, specifically to Carver and to Ellie."
