VIDEO: Gracepoint - Kevin Rankin Profiles Paul Coates

In a newly released video profile, Gracepoint actor Kevin Rankin talks about his character, Paul Coates.

When the body of a young body is found on the beach of the tiny northern Californian community of Gracepoint, it falls to Paul as town minister to meet the spiritual needs of the population. But Paul, who disappeared from the town a while back only to return as a man of God, may be harbouring his own secrets.

"He's a guy that really means well," says Kevin of Paul. "He's actually for the good of everyone and he's a bit inexperienced but he's learning on the job." Paul is also an old friend of the Solanos, and the clip offers some hints as to how close their early relationship may have been.

The ten part event series Gracepoint is based on the acclaimed UK series Broadchurch and shares a star in David Tennant. David plays a role similar to his Broadchurch character Alec Hardy, now an American detective called Emmett Carver. The cast also includes Anna Gunn as Ellie Miller with Michael Pena and Virginia Kull as grieving parents Mark and Beth Solano. The role of Paul Coates was originally played by Arthur Darvill. The series begins in a similar manner to the original but then, the showrunners promise, there will be new twists and turns, new suspects and a new killer.

Gracepoint premieres on Fox on Thursday 2nd October at 9pm/8c
