The tearjerking farewell between the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler, played by David Tennant and Billie Piper has topped a list of the greatest ever sci-fi and fantasy moments as voted for by fans.
The poll was conducted by SFX magazine, who asked their readers to decide the top 250 greatest sci-fi and fantasy scenes from a long list deriving from classics of TV, film, comics and literature. The full list features in the magazine's celebratory 250th issue, in stores from tomorrow.
The scene which topped the poll appeared at the end of the second series of the revived Doctor Who. With Rose trapped in a parallel dimension, the Doctor manages to harness the power from a supernova to appear to her to say what they believed at the time to be their final goodbyes.
David Tennant says of the scene, "It all came together so perfectly in this scene that people still talk to me about it with misty eyes all these years later - and I suspect they always will. Whatever else I do and wherever else I end up, this will be a moment I will be forever proud to look back on."
SFX Magazine added, "We've all had to bid farewell to someone we care about - even if it wasn't forced upon us by the threat of universal destruction - and this eye-moistening moment perfectly encapsulates the agony of break-up."
