Today, 21st March, is UNESCO World Poetry Day, celebrated worldwide since its inception in 1999.
UNESCO strive to bring international peace through networks of education, art, culture and freedom of expression. UNESCO intend that World Poetry Day should recognise the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind. The art form, they say, reaffirms our common humanity by revealing to us that individuals, everywhere in the world, share the same questions and feelings.
