Vancouver Island-based TV channel CHEK have posted a news report on the new Fox event series Gracepoint which will be filming in the area early next year. David Tennant stars in the US adaptation of the original ITV drama Broadchurch which shoots in Greater Victoria, British Columbia from late January 2014. Locations include Oak Bay village and Island View Beach, under whose bluffs the body of young Danny Lassiter will be discovered.
Kathleen Gilbert of the Victoria Film Commission says that the area is perfect for the shoot and exactly what the producers were looking for. "The town is really, really important. There's a cliff that's very important," she explains. "There's locations in this series that are characters in the series."
The area, once popular as a filming location has noticed a drop off in productions recently, and it is hoped that this major series will focus attention on Victoria once again. Local traders are hoping that the production will lead to a boost in the tourist trade and they will enjoy the 'Broadchurch effect' experienced by West Bay in Dorset where visitors flock to see the locations that they recognise from their TV screens.
