Following the opening night of Richard II at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon tonight, Susannah Clapp and Anne McElvoy have reviewed the performance on BBC Radio 3's Night Waves. The production, directed by Gregory Doran, stars David Tennant in the lead role.
Anne McElvoy praises David for his physicality and mercurial clarity and refers to a production that is at once traditional and contemporary. They also speak highly of the performances by Oliver Ford Davies and Michael Pennington.
The review also includes a clip of David Tennant and Michael Pennington as King Richard and John Of Gaunt
