David Tennant And Broadchurch Are Winners At The TV Choice Awards

The TV Choice Awards were held tonight at The Dorchester Hotel in London in a ceremony hosted by Ben Miller. The hit ITV drama series Broadchurch was represented in three categories: Best New Drama and nominations for Best Actor and Actress for stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman respectively. Both stars attended in the company of their co-stars Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker and series creator Chris Chibnall.

David Tennant won the Best Actor Award for his performance as DI Alec Hardy in the gripping crime series, seeing off stiff competition from fellow Doctor Matt Smith, Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey) and Jeremy Piven (Mr. Selfridge).

Broadchurch won the Best New Drama award in another closely contested category, beating The Fall, Ripper Street and Mr Selfridge to the prize. The cast,  led by Chris Chibnall, acknowledged that they made a lot of people cry and said that they were stunned to have won

Unfortunately Olivia Colman lost out on the Best Actress award to Miranda Hart for Call The Midwife. On his way to the stage to collect his own award, David Tennant kissed Olivia Colman and said she should be holding an award now.

Doctor Who won Best Drama Series. Matt Smith, currently filming his last ever episode in Wales, sent a video message to thank everyone for voting. The show, in its 50th Anniversary year, also received the Outstanding Contribution to television award, which was presented by Peter Davison to Steven Moffat after a montage of clips from the show had been screened. Steven also brought David Tennant back to the stage to share the moment, commenting, 'I'm receiving an award about Doctor Who from Doctor Who while Doctor Who is busy filming in Cardiff.' David joked that in another 50 years maybe another member of his family would star in the show.

David was also pictured with the cast of Waterloo Road:
