The Cineplex chain of cinemas in Canada will be screening the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Richard II by William Shakespeare, starring David Tennant and directed by Gregory Doran.
The broadcasts will take place nationally on Wednesday November 13th from 7pm.
About the production
Richard II is the first production to be broadcast live from
Stratford-upon-Avon , Shakespeare's home town.
This performance is the first ever live cinema broadcast from the stage of the
Royal Shakespeare Company with the sellout production of Richard II (the fastest selling show in the RSC's history), with
David Tennant in the title role and directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory
Doran.
Richard is King, ordained by God to lead his people. But he
is also a man of very human weakness. A man whose vanity threatens to divide
the great houses of England
and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 year.
The production also stars Nigel Lindsay, Oliver Ford Davies,
Jane Lapotaire, Emma Hamilton and Michael Pennington.
The play will open at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 10th October 2013 and will
run until 16th November 2013. It will then transfer to the Barbican Theatre in London from December
9th 2013 until 25th January 2014. All performances have now sold out.
It will be filmed for a live stream into UK cinemas
on Wednesday 13th November. This recording will subsequently be broadcast
into UK schools
and cinemas worldwide. Venues and dates are still being added so the RSC advise
fans to sign up to their website for notifications.
