Summer Holiday Shows and Activities at the Royal Shakespeare Company

This Summer Holiday the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon is offering audiences and visitors activities for all the family to find out more about making theatre. Inventive theatre company The Wrong Crowd is in residence for one week offering a range of activities for families inspired by the current costume exhibitions at the RSC In Stitches. Other workshops include how fake wounds are created in stage make up demonstrations and acting and fight workshops. Plus the RSC's outdoor theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Dell, plays host to a range of community and semi-professional productions throughout the summer weekends.

THE WRONG CROWD RESIDENCY Tuesday 20 – Monday 26 August
Inspired by the RSC's current costume exhibition In Stitches, The Wrong Crowd are taking up residency in the Royal Shakespeare Company for one week, bringing the world of costume-making to life. Events will take place across the week offering opportunities for people to join this visually-inventive theatre company as it delves into the art of designing and crafting costumes for the stage.

The Wrong Crowd makes theatre, which fuses storytelling, music, live action and puppetry, re-interpreting wild, old stories for contemporary audiences.


The activities offered by The Wrong Crowd include:

Free Drop in Activities
Each morning try our simple costume templates that you can then decorate and wear as you explore the rest of the costume exhibition. From a crown and cuffs or ears and a tail, there will be something for everyone to make. Please note, this activity requires using scissors, so younger children may need assistance from an adult and should not be left unattended.

Creative Costume Making
Puck, the mischievous sprite, has stolen all the costumes for our characters and we need your help making more. Join The Wrong Crowd for a creative afternoon of designing and crafting your own costumes for some famous characters from Shakespeare's plays.

A Sleepover at the RSC
Join The Wrong Crowd for the evening as they lead you on a magical night of costumes and stories. The evening will begin with costume making inspired by the In Stitches exhibition, bringing them altogether for a parade. We'll then to settle down for the night, in one of the most magical buildings in theatre, to hear bedtime stories.

Play in 2 Days
Work over two days with an RSC practitioner to create a shortened version of Hamlet. Working as an ensemble theatre company, you will devise, direct and act in a 30 minute performance that will be presented to family and friends as part of the summer season at The Dell open air stage.

Story Garden
Join us in the Story Garden on Saturdays throughout the year for a fun and active story. Each session will be on a different tale inspired by Shakespeare and the themes in his plays.

Former RSC Head of Wigs and Make-up, Brenda Leedham demonstrates how to create fake bruises, cuts and scars. Willing participants will be required!

The Dell
On weekends throughout the summer, the Royal Shakespeare Company's outdoor theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Dell, plays host to a range of lively student, community and semi - professional productions. Performances kick off on Saturday 8 June, and continue until Sunday 1 September. The Dell is situated on the banks of the River Avon in Avonbank Gardens, near Holy Trinity Church. Entrance is free.

Tower
Take a trip up the Tower to experience an alternative view across Stratford-upon-Avon and beyond. A lift will take you up to the viewing platform. The Tower is open daily from 10am until 4pm. Please note the Tower may be closed around Matinee performances in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
