Jenna Coleman has been speaking to Access Hollywood about filming the 50th Anniversary Special. She confirms that filming on the episode, in which she co-stars with Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt and Billie Piper, is complete and special effects are currently being added.
Jenna plays the Eleventh Doctor's companion Clara, last seen stepping into the Doctor's timeline and splitting herself to watch over him throughout his life. "She has three Doctors to play with in one episode," said Jenna, "Which is fun…which is just beyond fun. It’s really exciting. And as we know, Billie is back, Billie Piper. We know the Daleks are back now as well, that’s been released. The whole episode is a massive celebration and it’s kind of about celebrating the last 50 years of Doctor Who with a massive team of us all thrown in there, but it’s quite a transformational episode and it very much changes the direction of where the show is going in quite a big way."
She elaborated a little on John Hurt's character: "He is the Doctor that no-one knew about. He is the Doctor that’s never talked about and not mentioned, so of course we’re going to explore why and that story. And also see David’s Doctor and Matt’s Doctor and John’s Doctor, the three of them, interacting, which is great." However, she declined to say whether she has scenes with Billie Piper.
Jenna also said that filming was as thrill from the first day, "It was a brilliant script but it was at the read through, hearing the whole thing come alive. We had David at the read through and all the other actors, and just hearing all that back and forth and all the possibilities, and there’s so many places – the comedy of it as well – where you can go, it was kind of..I was totally buzzed. And that was what it was like filming on the 50th as well. It was kind of like a big party.
"And actually, it was a big party because it was apparently everyone’s birthday. It was my birthday, it was David’s, so there was cake nearly every single day!"
