What We Did On Our Holiday - More Filming And Cast Details

As filming begins in Glasgow today for the new David Tennant feature film, What We Did on Our Holiday, the producers have released a few more details about the production.

The latest name to join the cast is Celia Imrie. Celia has had a wide ranging career that has taken in theatre, film and TV and is as comfortable with comedy as with drama. She recently made an appearance in the Doctor Who episode The Bells Of Saint John, and is currently starring in the new ITV series Love And Marriage.

David Tennant stars as Doug in the film, a native of Scotland who, on the verge of divorce from Abi, played by Rosamund Pike, returns to his homeland with his wife and children for a family event. Billy Connolly plays grandfather Georgie who is celebrating his 75th birthday, the reason for the gathering. Other cast members include Ben Miller and Amelia Bullmore with Bobby Smalldridge, Harriet Turnball and Emilia Jones as Doug and Abi's three children.

The film is written and directed by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, who are also behind the acclaimed TV comedy series Outnumbered and producer Guy Winch says that this film will use similar improvisational techniques where scenes are planned out but the child actors are not scripted, so adult co-stars have little idea what they might say next.

Winch also said, "We've been working on the film for a long time now so it's going to be good to get the cameras rolling. We're shooting at a few private houses largely in and around Glasgow, so our production base is there. We're shooting fully on location."

What We Did On Our Holiday will shoot for seven weeks on location in Glasgow and the Highlands of Scotland. The film, a co-production between BBC Films and Origin Pictures, is scheduled for a 2014 release
